Description
The Former Lloyds Bank, dated 1891, is a bank building located at 44 Queen Street in Morley. It features ashlar stone on the front and left gable, with hammer-dressed stone on the left and brick on the right gable and rear. The building has a Welsh-blue slate roof and stands three storeys tall, occupying a corner site.
The corner bay includes a doorway with a keyed arch, imposts, and fluted Doric pilasters, which are topped with fluted brackets, an entablature, and an open triangular pediment. To the left, there are four bays, and to the right, three bays, all showcasing similar architectural details, including pilasters and a cornice on the ground floor, as well as sill bands on the first and second floors.
The first-floor windows are adorned with shouldered architraves and alternate between triangular and segmental pediments, while the second-floor windows are smaller and also feature shouldered architraves. The building has an eaves band, cornice, and a blocking course. The corner bay is taller and includes a pedimented date plaque with a festoon design. Three ashlar chimney stacks are set forward from the ridge. The building is included for its group value.
