Description
9, 11, and 13 Lower Broad Street are 18th-century houses located in Ludlow. They are constructed of brick with a plain tile roof and feature brick stacks at the rear. The buildings are two stories high, with an attic and cellar, and present a three-window range. The windows are 2-light casements with glazing bars, set under gauged brick segmental arches, and there is a storey band.
Access to the rear is through a central passage that has a 20th-century plank door and a blocked overlight, all within a plain case under a gauged brick segmental arch. To the left, there is a 20th-century door and shopfront with glazing bars, topped by a fascia board and a simple hood. To the right, a 20th-century, four-panel door is set in a moulded case, alongside an 18th-century window with glazing bars and a metal casement, also under a gauged brick segmental arch, with a storey band above.
The passage leading to the rear features timber-framing with brick infill, a plastered ceiling, and a ceiling beam, along with a simple two-panel door to the right. The rear elevation is made of rubble with a massive joist end visible. There is an additional wing at the rear of No. 9, constructed of rubble and brick, which includes a 20th-century plank door and casement windows in the gable end. The rubble wing at the rear of No. 13 also has a 20th-century plank door, while No. 11 features an additional range of 19th-century brick with a plain tile roof, a plank door, and two windows in the gable end, all under segmental arches, with a brick end stack.
Inside, the ground floor front of No. 9 includes a corner fireplace.
