Description
Brook Cottages are two houses dating from around 1600. They feature a partly painted timber frame with painted brick infill panels set on a rubble stone plinth. The original thatched roofs have been replaced with plain tiles, and there are integral stone rubble chimneys with brick upper shafts located at the gable ends and eaves. The buildings have a rectangular plan consisting of four framed bays, including a reduced extension bay.
The exterior is single storey with an attic. On the west side, the square framing is two panels high, with a straight tension brace to the right. There is a rubble chimney stack to the left, a central plain boarded door, and a two-light casement window to the right. The east side also has square framing two panels high, featuring two plain boarded doors, two two-light casement windows, and two gabled dormers above. A 20th-century casement window is present in the extension bay to the left. The north gable end displays a tie beam with a collar and vertical struts above, square framing two panels high with twin straight tension braces, and a two-light casement window on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
