Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Charity Cottages are two houses dating from the late 16th century, with some alterations. The upper storey features a timber frame with curved braces and 20th-century brick infill, which is rendered over in the right bay. The ground floor and rear have been rebuilt in brick. There is a 19th-century brick bay to the right and a 20th-century gabled brick extension to the left. The cottages have 20th-century tile roofs and rendered chimneys flanking the original right bay.
The buildings are two storeys tall with three original bays. The windows are irregularly arranged, consisting of two and three-light wooden casements with single horizontal glazing bars, and there is a three-light metal casement on the ground floor to the right. The entry is located in a lean-to at the angle with the 20th-century extension, and there is another door at the rear.
Inside, there is more timber framing with curved and ogee wind-braces. The centre bay features a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists.
