Description
Bennett End Farmhouse is a house dating from the 17th century, consisting of three different builds, with some alterations. The two bays closest to the road are timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, while the two bays further back have been rebuilt in whitewashed brick. The house features old tile roofs. There is a 17th-century chimney made of thin brick at the center of the range, a rebuilt brick chimney between the far bays, and a lateral brick chimney on the near bay. To the left of the near bay, there is a 19th-century extension made of whitewashed brick and flint with a slate roof, and a lean-to structure to the right. The house is two storeys high with four bays and has irregular barred wooden casements. There are 20th-century doors in small half-timbered porches on the gable end and the left side. A 20th-century lean-to at the far end connects the house to a range of whitewashed brick outbuildings. Inside, the second bay features heavy framing with curved and diagonal braces, wind-braces, and a stop-chamfered spine beam, while the near bay has lighter framing but includes heavy 16th-century floor joists.
