Description

Two Yews Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The house is constructed of red and vitreous brick, partly laid in a chequered pattern, with dentil eaves. Flint and brick are used to the right-hand gable. It has an old tile roof, half-hipped to the right, with a central brick chimney. The building is one storey and an attic, originally two bays wide. Features include a three-light wooden casement with a segmental head to the right, a 20th-century barred wooden window in a blocked doorway which previously served as a lobby entry, and a 20th-century half-glazed door in an altered window opening to the left. Further 20th-century barred wooden casements are found to the ground floor and in both gables, with a 19th-century brick chimney on the left gable. A small, set-back extension of flint and brick is present to the left, along with a lean-to with raised eaves to the rear. A 20th-century brick extension adjoins the rear of the left bay. Inside, the house retains stop-chamfered spine beams, one of which has a barred stop, a central timber-framed partition, and two winder staircases, one aligned with the chimney stack.
