Description

Andridge House is a house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made later. The front was rebuilt in the late 18th to early 19th century using flint with brick dressings, while the rear is similar but features some 18th-century red and vitreous brick with a first-floor band course. The house has an old tile roof and brick chimneys located to the left and center. It is designed in an L-shape with a half-hipped cross wing on the right, and it has two storeys and an attic. The façade has three bays with irregular barred wooden casements. There are flat-roofed dormers in the center bay and above a 19th-century lean-to in front of the left bay. A board door is located in the lean-to, and to the right is a 20th-century panelled door framed by an architrave and topped with a cornice hood on scroll brackets. To the right, there is a 20th-century brick extension that includes a colonnaded verandah at the rear. Inside, the house retains timber framing in the partition walls, with the partition between the right bays featuring heavy ogee braces and the remainder having curved braces. Curved wind-braces are also present. The cross wing contains a moulded cross beam and a stop-chamfered tie in the central partition, along with a moulded spine beam in the rear room. The rest of the ground floor has imitation moulded beams and plaster cornices, while the framing in the left bay is of later 17th-century construction.
