Description

Brook Farmhouse, including attached stables, is a farmhouse and stables that underwent late 18th century remodelling of an earlier house. The building features coursed stone with stone rubble extensions and has a plain-tile roof with a brick dentil course at the eaves, along with two roof-lights on the south side. It has integral brick eaves stacks on each side and a projecting brick stack at the gable end. The structure has a long rectangular plan with a small cross wing at one end and a small side extension at the rear.

The exterior is two storeys with an attic. The south front displays a three-window range of mullion and transom wood casement windows, with the ground floor windows featuring flat stone lintels and raised centre keyblocks. There is a central plain boarded door with a top-light, and to the right, a small two-light casement window above a 20th-century partly glazed door. To the left, the weatherboarded gable end of the stables cross wing is partly obscured by a covered wagon entrance that is perpendicular to the house and connects to the barn and cowhouse.

On the north side, there are two mullion and transom windows on the first floor and a casement window on the ground floor to the right, along with a boarded door on the ground floor to the left. To the left is a gabled projecting single-storey and attic stone rubble extension, and to the right is the stone rubble gable of the stables cross wing at the west end of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
