Description

Brook House Farmhouse and integral barn is a farmhouse dated 1666, as noted on a stone above the door inside the porch, though it likely has origins in the earlier 18th century. The building underwent alterations around 1933 and now functions as a house. It is constructed of sandstone random rubble with quoins, recently covered with a coat of render on the left gable, and features a slate roof with a gable chimney. The structure has a rectangular four-bay plan that includes the barn; originally, the house was one bay and the barn three, but it has been modified to create two bays each. The gable faces the road.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with a gabled single-storey porch that has been modernly renovated, incorporating part of a wall from what was previously a very small garden. To the left of the porch, there is a three-light chamfered mullion window on each floor. To the right, there is a door and an inserted first-floor window that mimics the style of the others. The rear of the building features two two-light chamfered mullion windows on the ground floor and two above. The barn continues to the right and includes a segmental-headed wagon entrance and a door to the right.

Inside, the inner doorway under the porch has a moulded sandstone surround and a heavily-studded oak door. The barn contains two roof trusses with cambered tie-beams, kingposts with struts to the principals, and above these, curved struts to the ridge, along with two pairs of purlins.
