Description
Brook House Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding date from 1632 and 1826, as indicated by the datestone and door lintel that reads "Richard Harrison Anno Dom 1632." The farmhouse was rebuilt by Thomas Brown in 1826. The structure consists of two main parts and a left extension. The left section is made of coursed sandstone on a plinth, while the right section features larger and more evenly coursed tooled sandstone, also on a plinth. The roofs are pantiled with stone ridges, copings, kneelers, and stacks.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with two windows and a one-storey set-back entrance bay that leads into the left outbuilding, which has one storey and a loft and consists of two builds. The entrance features a boarded door with a low overlight. The left bay has a tripartite window with a central opening sash, totaling 24 panes, beneath a late 19th-century three-light sash, both with projecting cills. The right bay has replaced 12-pane sashes. Gable copings are present on block kneelers, and there are end chimneys, with the left chimney likely being original.
The right return has two late 19th-century sashes, while the left return shows a fire window to the right of a large stepped projecting stack. A continuous eaves band runs around the left return and chimney, which also features banded steps. The outbuilding includes a stable door, a boarded door, two small windows, and a raked loading dormer. A small lean-to on the left has a stable door, and there are boarded doors and small windows at the rear. An attached brick lean-to on the right return is not of special interest.
