Description
Cook House and attached outbuildings is a farmhouse, possibly dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed roughly-tooled sandstone and features a pantiled roof with a tile ridge, stone copings, and kneelers, along with brick and stone stacks. The building has a through-passage plan with a rear wing and is one storey high with an attic, comprising two wide bays. A central 20th-century porch and door are present. To the left is a small sash window with a timber lintel, and to the right is a 6-pane window with a bottom centre opening and a heavy stone lintel. The masonry junction above the doorway indicates an earlier opening. The eaves are stepped, and there are block kneelers. A stone stack is located at the right end, while a rebuilt brick stack is at the left. A lower left outbuilding is also present. The rear elevation shows rougher stonework, with a boulder plinth to the right outbuilding and three stable doors. The house is partly concealed by a central lean-to. A low one-storey outbuilding wing projects on the left. The main house has mid-19th-century windows. Inside, the downhouse appears to have been raised to full height in the 19th century, with a fireplace inserted upstairs. The hearth is located at the far end, with a fire window in the gable end, and some old beams remain. The rear lean-to on the house and a breeze-block lean-to on the one-storey outbuilding are not of interest.
