Description

FYLINGDALES A171 NZ 90 SW (east side) off 11/8 Cook House and attached outbuildings

  • II Farmhouse, possibly early C18. Coursed roughly-tooled sandstone; pantiled roof with tile ridge, stone copings and kneelers, brick and stone stacks. Through- passage plan with rear wing. 1 storey and attic, 2 wide bays. Central C20 porch and door. Left small sash with timber lintel; right 6-pane window with bottom centre opening and heavy stone lintel. Masonry junction top left of doorway suggests earlier opening. Stepped eaves and block kneelers. Stone stack at right end, rebuilt brick stack at left. Lower left outbuilding. Rear elevation shows rougher stonework. Boulder plinth to right outbuilding, and 3 stable doors. House partly concealed by central lean-to. Low 1-storey out- building wing projects on left. Mid C19 windows to main house. Interior: downhouse appears to have been raised to full height in C19 and fireplace inserted upstairs. Hearth is not behind passage but at far end, with fire window in the gable end. Some old beams remain. Rear lean-to on house and breeze-block lean-to on one storey outbuilding are not of interest.
