Description
Stoupe Bank Farmhouse and its attached outbuildings date from the mid to late 18th century. The buildings are constructed from coursed sandstone with light herringbone-tooling and feature a pantiled roof with stone ridge, copings, and kneelers, along with stone and brick stacks. The farmhouse follows a hearth-passage plan and consists of two storeys and an attic, with two wide bays. The downhouse is one storey with one bay and has a 1½ storey, one-bay outhouse extension.
The main house has a central six-panel door set in an alternate-block surround with a heavy downcurved lintel. It features three-light windows with a central opening sash on both floors, and a similar window in the raking dormer. The building includes curved kneelers and chimneys, with a cornice-banded brick chimney on the right end and a corniced stone chimney on the left end. The downhouse has a boarded passage door and a similar window, along with a ridge stack. The outhouse has a blocked door, a cross casement, and a glazed loft opening.
To the right, there is a three-bay, 1½-storey outbuilding that creates a near-symmetrical composition, featuring two stable doors and a small fixed light on the left, and two plain casements at the top right. At the rear of the house, there is a pent dairy extension.
Inside, the local range in the downhouse includes a peat slab, reckon, and oven with a separate fire. The houseplace and parlour have been combined into one space, with a panelled partition at the rear and quarter-round moulded beams. There is also a panelled firebeam and a short heck with a built-in settle.
