Description

Ladysmith Farmhouse and its attached outbuildings are a group of structures that date from the early to later 18th century. The older section, which is the ground floor of the downhouse, is built with coursed pecked sandstone in square blocks, while the later parts feature herringbone-tooled sandstone. The roofs are covered with pantiles and have stone ridges, copings, and kneelers, with brick stacks on stone bases.

The farmhouse has a hearth-passage plan and consists of two storeys with two bays, with the house on the left being wider. The entrance features a two-panel passage door beneath a wooden lintel. On the ground floor to the right, there is a Yorkshire sash window, and above it, a three-light chamfered mullioned window. The house also has a small window in the position of a fire-window and a three-light chamfered stone-mullioned window to its left, along with a 20th-century three-light small-paned casement at the far left. The first floor has two Yorkshire sash windows.

To the left, there is a 1½ storey outbuilding that includes a hit and miss window and a small skylight above a boarded door. On the right, there is a lean-to outbuilding with a loft door. The structure features block kneelers, and both ends have ridge stacks. The rear elevation shows the development of the buildings: a one-storey downhouse, followed by the rebuilt main house and downhouse, which were heightened to the same level, and finally, the entire house was raised, resulting in stepped eaves. The passage door at the rear is set under an arched lintel, and there is a three-light stone-mullioned window on the first floor to the left.

The lean-to outbuilding contains a pigsty below, featuring four blocked feeding chutes and a small loft window above. The right outbuilding projects slightly and includes a stable door, a small opening to the right, a small window at the far left, a loft opening, and a skylight. Inside the farmhouse, there is an 18th-century corniced firebeam in the kitchen. A small brick lean-to attached to the outbuilding is not of special interest.
