Description

The Old School House is a former school house that has been converted into a private residence. It was built in the late 19th century and features finely herringbone-tooled coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and has stone copings and stacks. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with the gabled right bay projecting slightly.

The narrow central bay serves as an extruded porch, which has a broached, canted first floor and a hexagonal spirelet above. The entrance features a boarded door set in a concave-shouldered arch with a flat-pointed head, and there is a small oculus above the door. The outer bays have ground floor three-light stone-mullioned windows with long-shouldered heads and iron lattice glazing, complemented by flat dripmoulds with scrolled ends.

On the first floor, there are two-light trefoil-headed windows with similar glazing, with the left window set in a gabled half-dormer. The left end has ridged gabled footstones that support broad coping, and there are end stacks. The left return of the building is mostly blank except for an offset stack projection. The three-bay rear elevation features similar windows, with the left and centre bays projecting; the centre bay is narrower and includes a tall stair window.
