Description

Brook Cottage is a farmhouse dated 1769 on the first floor, with an extension from the earlier 19th century, now serving as a house. It is built from coursed sandstone rubble, with the original section featuring quoins, and has a slate roof with two levels and chimneys at both gables. The building has a double-depth plan with two bays on each side and stands two storeys tall. The earlier part of the house, which faces the road, is nearly symmetrical and includes a blocked doorway slightly off-center, two square windows on each floor, and a datestone above the door on the first floor inscribed with "C J A 1769." There is also a moulded gutter cornice. The extension to the right is taller and features a panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight that has radiating glazing bars set in a Tuscan architrave, accompanied by a four-pane sash window to the right and two additional sash windows above. This section also has a moulded gutter cornice. An addition at the rear of the property appears to be of less architectural interest.
