Description

This is a farmhouse, dated 1795, and later enlarged. It is constructed from sandstone rubble with quoins, and has a slate roof with brick chimneys at the original gable ends. The original design was based on a double-depth, two-bay plan, with a further bay added to the left-hand side. The symmetrical frontage features a central doorway with a simple surround and a pitched stone canopy supported by brackets. There are two sash windows on each floor, all with plain square surrounds and without glazing bars. An addition to the left has a single window on each floor, matching the originals; the ground floor windows have shutter lugs set into the jambs. Above the door is a large rectangular datestone inscribed “C, R J 1795,” with a scrolled flourish and a boxed cross decoration. White detailing is used to highlight the quoins at the corners, window lintels and sills, stone gutter brackets, and the datestone. The rear elevation has three square windows on each floor, and a three-stage stairwell window with glazing bars. The left return wall has a glazed porch and a twelve-pane sash window, while the right gable wall features a single-storey, set-back washhouse with a gable chimney.
