Description

The Ancient House is a house, formerly a posting house known as The Sun Inn until the 19th century. It dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and was altered in the 18th century. The house is timber-framed with painted brick infill panels and painted stone rubble. It has a plain-tile roof with a brick ridge stack. The rectangular plan consists of four framed bays parallel to the street.

The exterior is two storeys high. The street front features square-panelled timber framing, three panels high, with an additional panel likely indicating raised eaves, covering the main three bays. A lower extension bay to the left is also three panels high. There are various wood casements and a projecting entrance porch. A stone rubble gable is visible on the left return. Lean-to extensions cover the ground floor at the rear.

The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
