Description
This barn, located approximately 15 meters south-west of Manor Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. It features a timber frame with short weatherboarded infill set on a rubblestone and sandstone block plinth, topped by a corrugated iron roof. The barn has a wide threshing entrance in the second bay from the left and a doorway in the left bay. Inside, the framing is visible, consisting of square panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by long curving tension braces. There are weatherboarded partitions with long straight tension braces. The roof is a single-purlin design spanning four bays, featuring one queen-post and four queen-strut trusses, along with straight windbraces and V-struts extending from the collars to the gable ends. The barn is attached to the left end wall of Manor Farmhouse. To the immediate west, there is a well-preserved motte, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
