Description

WEST FELTON C.P. MANOR LANE (north side) SJ 32 NW 7/72 Barn approx. 15m south-west of Manor Farmhouse (formerly 17.3.86 listed as The Tythe Barn) GV II Barn. Late C17 with later alterations. Timber framed with short weatherboarded infill on rubblestone and sandstone block plinth; corrugated iron roof. Wide threshing entrance in second bay from left and doorway in left bay. Interior: framing visible; square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with long curving tension braces; weatherboarded partitions with long straight tension braces. Single-purlin roof in 4 bays with one queen-post and 4 queen-strut trusses; straight windbraces and V-struts from collars to gable ends. Barn is attached to end of wall to left of Manor Farmhouse (q.v.). A well-preserved motte (Scheduled Ancient Monument County No. 157) lies immediately to west.
