Description
This barn, located approximately 10 metres east of Upper Gwarthlow Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some alterations. It features a weatherboarded timber frame with uncoursed limestone rubble on the south gable end and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has two levels and includes scattered eaves hatches and doors on the west side. Inside, the framing consists of square panels, with weatherboarded partitions supported by long straight tension braces and a continuous loft. The roof is constructed with a single-purlin collar and tie beam design across four bays, featuring straight windbraces and raking struts that support the principal rafters.
