Description
Nos 6 and 7 Smithfield Road are a range of two cottages dating from the 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The cottages are constructed of stone rubble that is partly coursed, but the front and gable end wall of No 6 have been rebuilt or refaced in red brick. They have a plain tile roof, and there is a rubble lean-to with a tiled roof attached to the gable end wall of No 6.
Both cottages are two storeys high. No 6 features a central entrance doorway with a segmental arch and a vertical board door, flanked by two 2-light casements. On the first floor, there are two smaller 2-light casements above the doorway. No 7 has a 19th-century door with glazed upper panels, and to the left, there is a 2-light casement. Both of these openings have brick segmental arches. To the right of the doorway, No 7 has two closely set 2-light casements and a smaller 2-light casement above on the first floor. Inside both cottages, there are chamfered bridging beams.
