Description
Nos 31 and 33 Mantle Street are a pair of two-storey cottages, dating from the 18th century and possibly earlier. No 31 has been refronted in dark red brick, while No 33 features stucco with incised coursing. Both cottages have an old slate roof that sweeps at the eaves, and they are topped with large coupled brick stacks at the centre of the roof.
The front of No 31 has three sash windows without glazing bars, whereas No 33 has three-light wooden casements. The entrance to No 31 is located on the right and features a wooden door set in plain wooden reveals. The doorway for No 33 is situated in the right wall of a passage on the left side of the front, which has a moulded surround and a four-panel door. Inside the passage, the walls are made of plastered rubble.
