Description
Evelith Mill is a mid-19th century watermill located adjacent to Evelith Millhouse on the north side of Evelith Lane in Shifnal. The building is constructed from brown brick with grey dressings and lacing courses, topped with an old tile roof. It features a basement, two storeys, and an attic. Notable architectural details include a dentil brick eaves cornice and a gabled projecting boarded semi-dormer hoist loft situated off-centre to the right. The front has three round-arched windows with cast iron radial glazing bars. On the first floor, there is a round-arched two-leaf boarded loft door positioned between the first and second windows from the right, and five steps lead up to a round-arched bearded entrance door on the left. To the right, there are three round-arched openings in the basement. A one-storey block to the left includes two round-arched windows and a segmental bearded basement door below, along with a cart shed that has two large round-arched entrances. A modern linking block connects the mill to Evelith Millhouse. The waterwheel to the north is now missing. Inside, some original fittings remain, including three pairs of underdriven millstones on the first floor, marked "R G.HANDLEY, MOOR ST. BIRMINGHAM," along with much surviving shafting.
