Description
Maryvale and Mill Cottage, along with an attached wall, is a house that has been converted into multiple residences. It dates from the 18th century and features a roughcast exterior with a sandstone-faced plinth and a slate roof. The building is two stories tall and has a cellar, with a single-window range that includes a 6/9 sash window with a cambered head. The central entrance has a part-glazed panelled door set in a panelled doorcase, topped by a moulded flat hood supported by pilasters.
On the right side, there are 19th-century pierced barge boards. The front facing Lower Mill Street showcases a late 19th-century two-tier canted bay with three sets of 3/3 sash windows, each with moulded cornices. To the left, there is an outshut featuring two 2/2 sash windows above a studded plank door leading to the cellar. The rear wing, known as Mill Cottage, is built with similar materials and has a brick end stack. It includes two 3/6 sash windows and one 8/8 sash window, with 20th-century metal casements on the ground floor. The attached rubble wall may incorporate the base of a town gate and features a plank door within a brick surround.
