Description

Stowford Mill House and Mill Cottage are a house and cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century and 20th century. They are constructed of rubble stone with a stone slate roof featuring gable end and lateral brick stacks. The building is two stories high and has six windows. The front includes a planked door and a 12-pane sash window to the left of center, with lateral gabled stacks on either side; the left stack is no longer gabled. To the left, there is a 2-light casement window, and to the right, there are two sash windows and a single casement window. On the first floor, there are three 12-pane sashes and three 8-pane sashes. The rear features a 20th-century gabled porch to the right, with 16-pane and 12-pane sash windows on both floors.

Mill Cottage is attached to the right of the house and has a door with arched panels, a 3-light chamfered mullioned casement window to the right, and 2-light and 3-light mullioned casements on the first floor. The rear of the cottage has a blocked doorway and 2-light mullioned casements, along with a blocked arch that indicates the location of a former mill race below the cottage. The interiors are said to have been remodeled in the 20th century. It is likely that part of this range of buildings was originally used as a mill before being converted into a dwelling.
