Description

Dinton Mill Cottage and The Mill is a disused mill and cottage located off the north side of Compton Chamberlayne Lane. The building dates from the late 17th century and around 1800. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features a Welsh slate roof with a half hip to the left and brick stacks. The structure is in an L-plan layout.

The former mill, situated to the left, is two stories high with a three-window front. It has a 20th-century door, two 2-light casements, and a shuttered window to the left, along with three 2-light casements on the first floor. There is a flat-headed dormer with a 2-light casement in the attic. The Mill Cottage is a 19th-century addition, featuring 2-light and 3-light casements on the ground floor and two 2-light casements on the first floor.

The right return of the building has a 20th-century door and a mix of 2-light and single-light casements. The left return includes 20th-century French windows leading up stone steps to the first floor and a 3-light casement in the attic. The rear of the building has a blocked recessed chamfered mullioned casement and a 3-light leaded casement on the ground floor of The Mill, along with a square opening over the mill race to the right. The first floor features a 2-light casement and a plate glass window. The rear of Mill Cottage includes casements and a rear wing with a lean-to extension. The interior was not accessible during the survey in April 1986.
