Description

The Penruddocke Arms is an inn dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted dressed limestone with a hipped Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape and has two storeys and four windows on its front elevation. A late 19th-century glazed porch with 20th-century double doors stands at the centre, flanked by a 12-pane sash window to the left and an original canted bay with sashes and a single 12-pane sash window to the right. The first floor features four 12-pane sash windows. The left return side has a 12-pane sash window, a 20th-century flat-roofed extension, a 9-pane sash window, and a blind window on the first floor. A two-storey rear wing, dating from the late 19th century, has 2-light aluminium casements and a double Roman tiled roof with a coped verge, along with a 20th-century flat-roofed extension to the rear. The inn is named after the Penruddocke family of Compton Chamberlayne.
