Description

Nos. 2, 3, and 4 Corve Street is a shop and residential building from the mid-19th century, with earlier elements. It is constructed of painted brick and features a Welsh slate roof, with plain tiles at the rear and a brick axial stack. The building stands three stories tall and has a two-window range. The mid-19th century windows include 1/1, 3/1, and 1/1 sashes under segmental arches, with 3/3 sashes above. The early 20th-century shopfront has later plate glass and a 20th-century half-glazed door leading to a former passage at the rear, all beneath a heavy fascia hood supported by scrolled consoles. The rear features a timber-frame gable with a 20th-century casement window beneath a plate. There are additional 19th-century features at the rear, including an 18th-century stack base, a large gable dormer, and a gable with exposed timber-frame and a 19th-century fixed light. Inside, there is a 19th-century staircase, 19th-century fireplaces in the front rooms on the first floor, plastered ceiling beams, a late 18th-century fireplace in the rear gable, and exposed ceiling beams. The front pitch of the roof was raised in the 19th century, revealing exposed beams, while the rear pitch retains an 18th-century roof structure.
