Description
The dovecote, granary, and adjoining barn located approximately 30 meters northeast of Moor Abbey date from the 17th century, with the granary featuring elements from an earlier building and the barn from the 18th century. Constructed from sandstone rubble, the dovecote and granary have tiled roofs, while the barn has a corrugated metal roof.
The dovecote is a square, two-storey structure with gabled sides, and it is attached to the granary on the southwest and a seven-bay barn on the northeast. The granary is single-storey with an attic, featuring a gabled dormer that retains decorative struts from an earlier period, a 2-light casement window, and steps leading up to the attic floor at the southwest gable end. On the ground floor, there is a square-headed opening to the left of a ledged doorway and another square-headed opening to the right.
The dovecote includes a small square-headed light in the gable and a larger square-headed double doorway on the ground floor. Inside, it retains some nesting boxes. The barn to the right has one gabled dormer with an opening and three square-headed doorways with ledged doors, flanked by loop vents and two rows of triangular vents above. There is also a threshing floor entrance to the right, flanked by five rows of similar triangular-headed vents, and it features inclined strut trusses.
