Description

Moor Abbey is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century and early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and further changes in the mid-19th century, along with minor modifications in the 20th century. The building has a timber-framed core that is completely encased in sandstone rubble and features part hipped tiled roofs. It has an irregular L-shaped plan with the main entrance located to the north-east and end stacks.

The north-east front includes a wing that projects forward to the left, featuring a gabled dormer with a 4-light casement window, a tripartite glazing bar sash window, and a 3-light window on the first floor. To the left of the entrance, there is a similar tripartite window with a segmental head and an inner square-headed doorway that holds a six-panelled door. A second wing, slightly set back to the right, has a gabled dormer window with a 4-light casement, a 3-light casement window on the first floor, and a 4-light mullioned window with leaded panes on the ground floor. The rear stack is adorned with decorative shafts.

Inside, the house features chamfered ceiling beams and a large open fireplace with chamfered jambs and a lintel. Moor Abbey was formerly owned by Leominster Priory and is situated within a moated site.
