Description
The Ford is a farmhouse located in Middleton on the Hill, dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and further changes in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building has a timber-framed core that has been almost entirely refaced in sandstone rubble, with brick stacks and a slate roof. It has an irregular plan, with a former L-plan house now surrounded by later additions to the north and east. The house features both axial and lateral stacks and has its entrance on the east front.
The east front has two gables on the left and one on the right of the doorway, which is flanked by triangular-headed sidelights. There are 3-light casement windows and a 2-light window above the doorway. The ground floor includes a canted bay window and a 3-light casement window to the left, and another canted bay window to the right of the doorway, which has a 6-panelled door. The interior has not been inspected.
