Description

Middleton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with a main block dated 1692, and later additions from the 18th and early 19th centuries, along with 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick with sandstone ashlar rusticated quoins and a rubble plinth, topped with a hipped slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan, with an earlier wing to the west, and the entrance is now on the east side. It features axial and end stacks. The farmhouse has two storeys and cellars, and two string courses run along the exterior. There are four glazing bar sash windows, the ground-floor ones having segmental heads. A part-glazed door is located on the east side. While inaccessible at the time of resurvey, the interior is reported to retain some 18th-century panelling and a contemporary staircase with turned balusters and square newels.
