Description
The Lea Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It features a refacing of sandstone rubble on a timber-framed structure, topped with a Welsh slate roof and brick chimney stacks. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a gable-end stack with a central star plan shaft, flanked by rebuilt diagonal shafts and an axial stack. The entrance is located on the south-west front.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with attics. The south-west front has a lean-to kitchen addition with a catslide roof that extends forward to the left. To the right of this addition is a 2-light ovolo moulded mullioned window. The main house to the right has a 5-light 19th-century casement window on the left and a similar 2-light window on the right. There is also a projecting 19th-century porch with a part-glazed door, which obscures an earlier battened and studded door.
At the rear of the house, several ovolo moulded mullioned windows remain, including a 3-light and a 4-light cross-mullioned window on the left, a partly blocked 3-light window, and another 3-light window at mezzanine level on the right. On the ground floor, there is a 5-light window, a 4-light window, and a 3-light window to the left of a square-headed doorway with a pierced ledged door, along with 2-light casement windows in the later addition to the right. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered ceiling beams and a section of 17th-century panelling in the main room.
