Description

Brook Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with late 19th-century additions and alterations. It is timber-framed with brick infill, a sandstone rubble plinth, and stacks. Later brick additions and partial brick refacing are also present, with brick shafts to the stacks. The building has an irregular L-shaped plan, with a wing aligned east/west and a cross-wing at the east end. Gable-end and axial stacks are visible, and the main entrance is on the south front. The farmhouse is predominantly single storey with an attic, although a section to the west is two storeys high, and the east section has attics. The south front features a catslide roof to the lower section on the left. A two-light casement window is located on the first floor of the main house, and a single-light casement window is to the left of a projecting bay window on the ground floor. The brick gable-end of the cross-wing appears to the right, with a plain sash window. A gabled porch providing access to a six-panelled door is also present on the ground floor. Internally, the ceilings feature chamfered beams with ogee stops.
