Description
OZLEWORTH - ST 79 SE 5/134 Barn incorporating dovecote and cowhouse or stable at Fernley Farm GV II
Large barn incorporating dovecote and cowhouses or stables with lofts above. Mid/late C18. Rubble stone, flush quoins, stone slate roof. West side has very large central projecting 2-storey cart entry with square dovecote tower above with pyramidal roof originally rising to a lantern now missing. Entry has chamfered cambered head archway with shaped double doors. Slit vents to each side with small lean-to against right hand return, and 2 large rendered raking buttresses to left side. Interior of dovecote has square nesting holes all round. Barn of 7 bays with collar beams arch braced on west side and supported on internal partition wall forming third main wall from which slope down additional beams to wall plate on west side. East side has flush chamfered cambered head archway with straight headed doors and section between 2 walls is formed into animal shelters with raking lofts above. To left, flight of 12 later stone steps up to loft platform and pitch hole with doorway beneath and small keyed oval opening in rectangular frame to far -left over 2-light window. To right, doorway and window with shuttered pitch hole over and flanking similar small ovals. Slate and stone slate lean-to on south gable end.
