Description
Bulk Farm is a former farmhouse, now separate from the farm buildings. It likely started as an 18th-century cottage and was enlarged in the mid-19th century. At one time, it also served as a school. The building is constructed of roughcast faced rubble stone and features a slate roof with coped verges and stone end stacks. It has a T-shaped layout with two storeys and an attic, along with a single-storey wing to the left that was probably a former dairy.
The front has two gables, each with a coped verge, saddlestone, and ball finial. There are single lights above two 2-light ovolo moulded stone mullions, all featuring square hoodmoulds and lattice iron casements. On the first floor, there is a similar central 2-light window above a projecting small gabled porch, which has a chamfered rounded cornered opening and a vertical battened inner door with one 20th-century glazed panel. The single-storey wing has one 2-light window without a hoodmould and a stable door to the right. There is also an L-shaped lean-to that is partly open to the rear on the left side.
The rear wing has been much restored, although the ground floor likely contains some of the oldest sections of the building. Inside, most of the original beams remain, with some being chamfered and stopped on the ground floor. There is also a large open timber bressumer fireplace on the ground floor near the left end stack. Additionally, there is a deep well located at the rear of the property.
