Description
This building is a barn incorporating a dovecote, dating from the 18th century, located east of Cartledge Hall in Holmesfield. It is constructed from coursed rubble coal measures sandstone, featuring sandstone dressings and quoins, topped with a stone slate roof.
The south gable includes a cart opening with a substantial timber lintel. To the left, there is a small round-arched window with a chamfered stone surround, along with three similar windows arranged in a stepped formation. The gable also features a six-tier pigeon cote with perches.
On the east elevation, there is a cart entrance on the right, which is covered by a wooden lintel, and a small triangular-headed window to the left, with another above it. The upper section has triangular breathers. The north gable end shows a blocked doorway, a square taking-in hole, and a stepped arrangement of round-arched windows similar to those on the south gable.
The west elevation has a doorway with a plank door, a small square opening with a diamond-paned casement to the left, and a three-light 20th-century casement to the right. The barn is listed for its group value.
