Description
Middle Farmhouse is a Grade II listed farmhouse located on Horsleygate Lane in Holmesfield. It was built in 1697 and 1740, with remodelling and additions made in the late 18th century and 19th century. The structure is made of coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with ashlar dressings. The gables are plain, except for the roadside elevation, which features coped gables with moulded kneelers, stone gable and ridge stacks, and a stone slated roof.
The house has an L-plan design and is primarily two storeys tall, with a single-storey bay on the roadside. The west elevation consists of three bays, with the north bay showcasing a three-light hollow moulded chamfer mullioned window that has a drip mould integral with the window head. This feature is carried as a stepped moulding over the doorway to the south, which has a quoined surround and a massive lintel inscribed with "TLS 1740." The two-storey section to the south has a gable, a three-light mullioned window on the ground floor, and a tall doorway with a quoined surround and a massive lintel inscribed with "AL 1697," leading to a 20th-century panelled door with a rectangular overlight.
Above this doorway, there are two 19th-century windows with plain stone surrounds and 19th-century joinery. The east and north elevations of the south range feature two-light hollow chamfer mullioned windows, each with drips integral with the head. The south elevation, which previously had sash windows, now has 20th-century joinery above 18th-century two-light basement windows.
