Description
The building is a granary and dovecote with an attached barn, dating from the mid-18th century, located approximately 30 metres east of Holme Farmhouse. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and has a sheet asbestos roof. The barn is tall, one storey high, and has four bays, with a three-storey single-cell granary and dovecote attached to its right end.
The barn features a segmental-arched wagon entrance with a slit vent above it, although the left part is obscured by an adjoining range that connects to Holme Farmhouse and is not of special interest. The rear of the barn has a lower, opposed segmental-arched opening.
The granary and dovecote have a cartshed entrance with a wooden lintel beneath a keyed segmental relieving arch. On the left side, there is a first-floor granary doorway with a banded ashlar surround, and a square casement in an ashlar surround to the right, above the arch. The second floor has a dovecote lunette with a corbelled ledge and keystone. The right return features a square-headed dovecote opening with a corbelled ledge.
Inside, the dovecote is lined with remnants of lath and plaster nesting holes.
