Description

Green Arbour Farm Cottage is a late 17th-century farmhouse located on Green Arbour Road in Thurcroft. The building is constructed of coursed, squared sandstone rubble and features a roof made of pantiles and Welsh slate. It has a two-cell baffle-entry plan with a continuous outshut and stands two storeys tall with an attic, showcasing three first-floor windows. The cottage is characterized by large quoins and a central doorway that has chamfered quoins and a deep lintel. On either side of the door are three-light, double-chamfered, mullioned windows, with similar windows on the first floor, where the central window is a single light. The gable ends have shaped kneelers and gable copings, although the coping on the right has been removed. A truncated brick ridge stack is positioned above the door.

On the right side of the building, there are blocked three-light, double-chamfered mullioned windows with dripstones on each floor, as well as another blocked single-light window at the junction with the outshut. The left side features a similar arrangement, with a ground-floor window that has two lights. Inside, the cottage retains transverse ceiling beams, with the beam on the ground-floor left having a stopped-chamfer. Some original stud and plaster partitions remain, and the heads of two arcade posts are visible on the first-floor rear. The principal rafter trusses are also present, making this cottage a remarkably well-preserved example of its period in the region.
