Description
Farm View Cottages are a house, now divided into three cottages, dating to the 17th century, and altered since. They are constructed from coursed rubble sandstone with a pantile roof. The building has an L-shaped layout, with rear wings of unequal length, integrated into the main range by an outshut. The front facade is arranged with a two-storey, 1:3 window arrangement to the first floor. Large quoins are visible. A gabled bay to the left features a 20th-century porch, which is not of special interest, positioned to the left of a two-light casement window. An old first-floor casement window, with glazing bars in a double-chamfered surround, is also present, along with a blocked double-chamfered attic window. Shaped kneelers are visible, though the gable copings have been removed. The cottage on the right has a later doorway flanked by 20th-century casements, all with plain lintels. Remains of earlier 17th-century window surrounds are built into the wall. To the first floor, there are two three-light wooden casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, supported by wooden lintels. A straight joint to the left of this cottage reveals traces of a blocked doorway, above which is a small first-floor casement. A brick ridge stack is located on the left side, with a brick end stack on the right. On the rear, the wing gable on the left displays two blocked, double-chamfered, single-light windows, shaped kneelers with carved scrolls, chamfered gable copings, and a brick end stack. The gable on the right has a two-light double-chamfered window surround to the first floor, and a similar blocked opening to the attic. The left return side has an intact three-light double-chamfered, mullioned window to the first floor. The right return side, facing the roadside, shows a blocked 17th-century three-light mullion window to the first floor on the gable end, with later brickwork to the gable. The rear-right wing was derelict at the time of resurvey.
