Description

Town End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1800 and the early 19th century. It is built from thinly-coursed, dressed sandstone and has a 20th-century cement-tile roof. The building has a T-shaped plan and is two storeys high, featuring a 2:3 window arrangement on the first floor of the west entrance front.

The earlier cross-wing on the left has a chamfered plinth and large raised quoins. It includes a part-glazed door with a six-pane overlight in a raised ashlar surround, positioned to the left of a tripartite sash window. The sashes, which have glazing bars, are set in raised ashlar surrounds with projecting sills. The later wing on the right is set back and has large quoins, a blocked doorway flanked by sashes with glazing bars in raised ashlar surrounds, and a doorway with a quoined surround to the far left. The first-floor windows match those of the rest of the building.

There is an eaves band along the hipped roofs of both ranges, with brick stacks located at the eaves of each end and at the front eaves of the cross-wing. On the left return, there is a round-headed stair window featuring Gothick glazing bars.
