Description

This sun-dial, located about 80 yards north-north-west of Great House, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is made of finely carved limestone and features a bronze dial and gnomon. The overall height of the sun-dial is approximately 3 feet 6 inches. It has a square base with chamfered top edges and a large helical baluster that includes a capital adorned with two rows of projecting acanthus leaves. The top is octagonal and has an egg and dart cornice. The dial is inscribed with the name J WRIGHT and includes an incised dog design.
