Description
Home Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century and has undergone later alterations. It features a plinth made of sandstone rubble and a timber frame with brick infill, topped by a tiled roof. The building has sandstone and brick stacks at either end and is laid out in a rectangular plan with two and a half bays, aligned east to west, across two storeys.
On the south elevation, there are two mid-20th century casement windows with two lights each. The ground floor also has a pair of similar windows, positioned on either side of a contemporary timber-framed porch that has a lean-to roof and a glazed door. The plinth on the left side is higher and wraps around the west gable, where the timber frame has been extended to the far end of the sandstone stack. The east stack is made of brick and dates from the late 20th century. The timber frame consists mainly of four square panels from the plinth to the wall-plate, with thin studs above the higher part of the plinth.
Inside, the cottage features heavy ceiling beams, and the west fireplace has a dressed sandstone segmental arch with a bread oven located to the side.
