Description
The Knoll is a house that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, topped with a tile roof and features brick ridge stacks, with a brick gable on the south side. The building has a rectangular four-bay plan that runs roughly north to south and stands two storeys tall.
On the west elevation, there are four windows featuring 2-light early or mid-19th century leaded casements. The ground floor includes two early 20th-century casements, each with four lights, and a central door set within a gabled porch. The east elevation has a full-length lean-to extension, which may date from the early 20th century.
Inside, the house boasts heavy stop-chamfered ceiling beams and oak floorboards. The trusses include raking struts. Notably, the casement window to the right of centre on the west side has an iron handle designed in the shape of a hand holding a scroll.
