Description
Butthouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th, 19th, and mid-20th centuries. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, brick, and timber-frame with brick nogging, topped with tiled roofs. The building has an L-plan layout with wings extending to the west-north-west and north-north-west, and it stands two storeys high with attics.
The garden front faces east and features a symmetrical arrangement of five windows, which are mid-20th century steel casements with two and three lights. There are projecting gables on either side of the centre, each with 3-light casements and close-studded timber-framing above the ground storey. Behind these gables are larger, more steeply pitched gables with widely spaced framing and curved struts above the collars. The central entrance is beneath a projection and has a two-leaved mid-20th century door with a transom light.
On the north elevation, there are two large sandstone side stacks. The entry in the angle features four ex situ corbel-heads in the parapet of the porch. The west gable also has two similar corbel-heads, which are likely recovered from the nearby demolished Wormsley Priory. Access to the interior has been refused.
