Description
Wootton is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with early and late 19th-century additions and later alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, brick, and timber-frame with plaster and brick infill, topped with Welsh slate roofs and features sandstone rubble and brick stacks. The building has a rectangular plan of about seven bays, oriented east to west, with an early 19th-century cross-wing at the east end and a square hop-kiln at the west end.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. The east elevation, made of sandstone rubble, has three windows featuring 2-light early 19th-century cross-casements. The ground floor includes 3-light segmentally headed mid-20th-century steel casements and a central glazed early 20th-century door set within a gabled porch. The roof is hipped with deep eaves.
On the north elevation, there is exposed framing with two square panels high above a deep plinth, and a larger external side stack with a tall sandstone shaft. Attached to the right is a late 19th-century brick hop-kiln with a pyramidal roof. Inside, the main range features richly chamfered ceiling beams and collar trusses with V-struts, some of which also have queen struts.
