Description
This building is a barn located about 15 yards south of Old Kates, dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed of rubble with a timber frame, featuring weatherboards and corrugated iron roofs. The barn consists of three bays, with a rubble base under the frame that is two panels high up to the wall-plate. The east end is clad in weatherboards and corrugated iron, while the west end is entirely covered in corrugated iron. There are full-height entrances on opposite sides of the center bay. An extension for a single-storey cow-house made of rubble is attached to the east end, and there is a catslide extension clad in corrugated iron to the north of the west bay. Inside, the barn features four pairs of heavily cranked crucks, with the eastern cruck having a collar still in place, and cruck spurs located at the wall-plate just east of the north entrance. The barn forms a group with Old Kates.
