5/14 Barn and cowhouse about 25 yards south west of - Upper House Farmhouse

Barn and cowhouse. Probably C18. Rubble, part timber-frame, weatherboards, woven panels, stone slate and corrugated iron roof. 6 bays consisting of 3-bay central part, wider 2 bay adjoining part to east with catslide extensions to north and a single bay wider part to west. Rubble external walls, except for that to north, with "loop-hole" ventilators either side of ledge full height opposing doors. Frame: north wall is 3 panels high from cill to wall-plate with woven panels, 3 purlins. Interior: threshing floor behind full height doors, trusses are of 2 types: vertical struts from ties to collars; raking struts from tie-beam beneath which is a horizontal rail supporting partition studs. Woven panel partition to division between central and east part. The east elevation is typical of the locality in presenting 3 symmetrically placed doors in a rubble gable end of great span leading to a cowhouse containing rack and trough.
