Description
Maerdy is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century, with later extensions added. It features finely coursed rubble and some timber framing, topped with a stone slate roof and a stack located to the right of the center. The building has a two-cell plan that runs east to west, with an extension added to the west in the 17th century. It is one and a half storeys tall and has two windows.
On the north elevation, there is a 20th-century casement window on the right side. The first floor includes a mid-19th century two-light casement window under a hood in a gabled half-dormer above the entrance, and a two-light 20th-century window to the left of the stack. The entrance features a late 19th-century ledged door beneath the gabled dormer. There is also a late 19th-century single-storey extension with an end stack positioned at right angles to the north side of the west side.
Inside, a plank and muntin screen divides the eastern part of the house, which has ceiling beams with stepped stop-chamfers. There is a fire hood in the extension to the west. The extension is concealed by a timber-framed cross-wall and a visible join in the rubble on the north elevation.
