Description

This is a barn and attached cowhouse built onto Glibes Farmhouse, likely from the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof. The barn has four bays, with an additional bay for the cowhouse at the front and another loft bay at the rear, which links to the farmhouse. There are two ledged doors from the 18th century leading into the cowhouse, with the left door designed as a stable door that splits horizontally. Above this is a loft door, and the entrance to the barn features full-height doors in the center of the structure.

The rear gable end includes a ledged door and a four-light window with three diamond-section oak mullions. There is a catslide extension at the front of the bay immediately to the left of the barn's high doors. Inside, the trusses have three purlins and raking struts connecting the ties to the principal rafters. A rubble cross-wall separates the cowhouse from the barn, infilling an unstrutted open truss above that contains a pitching eye. The rear of the barn returns to cover a lobby that separates it from the side entrance to the farmhouse. The catslide extension also covers two ventilation slits to the left of the threshing floor and has a roof supported by a half-truss with a raking strut. This building is part of an excellent farm group.
